Thank you for this terrific piece. This is an important issue for Catholics to consider. I recently published a column on this very topic where I wrote: “We are witnessing an unsettling trend that undermines the dignity of human life. Regrettably, while many assisted death laws claim to include safeguards (such as a terminal diagnosis, waiting periods, and mental competency), we have seen some of these guardrails fall by the wayside in places like Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In many instances, governments permit assisted death in non-terminal cases, cases involving mental illness, or even for minors.”
